What's on your door?
Euro cylinder: the lock on almost every uPVC and composite door, and many timber ones. The key goes into a cylinder that can be swapped without touching the rest. An anti-snap one is the usual upgrade: €78 (Locksmiths Dublin) to €115 (Locksmiths.ie) fitted on two Dublin price lists.
Night latch (Yale type): the latch on many older timber front doors. Fitted at €98, or €128 for a deadlocking one to BS3621 (Locksmiths.ie).
Mortice deadlock: the lock set into the edge of a timber door. A 5-lever one to BS3621 is €125 fitted (Locksmiths.ie). Some home insurance policies name BS3621 locks: check yours.

How much is a lock change in Dublin?
Published figures for one lock run €70–€200. Locksmiths.ie fits a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder for €115, and Emergency Trade's guide puts a lock change at €80–€200 per lock, fitted, including VAT.
What is an anti-snap cylinder?
A euro cylinder built to resist being snapped, a way of forcing uPVC and composite doors. TS007 3-star is the rating Irish price lists quote for them, for example Locksmiths.ie and Workily.
Should I change the locks when I move in?
It's worth it: you don't know how many keys the last owners or tenants gave out. On most modern doors that's a new cylinder, not a whole new lock.

Ask your landlord or agent first, in writing, and give them a key if they agree.
